Technology
- Experiment in the Canvas sandbox/practice class, rope in some students to help you test it out.
- Teach students to ALWAYS use chrome–otherwise things don’t show in canvas, such as submit buttons
- Teach tech tools and virtual participation skills before expecting students to use them
- Keep the chat window open. Students message me privately throughout class.
- Dual monitor is a game changer. It allows for multitasking.
- Closed captioning records even when your mic is on mute, so be careful!
Virtual Lesson Design/Implementation
- Prepare a good work space–notetaking paper, pens, dual monitors, water, tissues…think about what you might need during class and have it handy
- Plan in buffer time in your live lessons for tech hiccups
- Plan for zoom to crash! I was kicked out of my zoom today, but my students were still in it. Tomorrow I’ll tell them that if I disappear, that we’ll use myMCPS to communicate. Think of it as being like a fire drill…
